Open for non-narcotic prescription refills on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am until 2pm. Volunteer doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and lay people staff the clinic on these days. This site should be for medicine and supplies only. No major treatment is handled through the Clinic. the Clinic has seen an average of 60 patients a day. This is a collaboration of efforts of Calcasieu Parish Medical Society and Alliance, McNeese College of Nursing, Red Cross and Calcasieu Community Clinic. The Clinic is a central clearing house for medication and supplies being available to residents of the Special Needs Shelter, Lake Charles Civic Center, Burton Coliseum, and any hurricane evacuees residing in the greater Lake Charles area. If there are any medications that the Clinic does not have, a prescription is written and the patient is referred to Walgreen's, Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, or Kroger's to get it filled. If the medicine is available in the clinic, a sample supply is given to the patient while they are in the clinic, usually a month's supply, then a prescription is written for two refills that the patient can present to the above mentioned stores. The Clinic has been told by store representatives that if the patient has drug coverage, they will be asked to pay the co-pay. If the patient has no co-pay nor has any available resources (by using the honor system), the store will work with them. Red Cross is only providing vouchers for residents of their approved shelters.
